Ports of Stockholm container volumes up 79 percent in Jan-March 2013
Over the first three months of the year container volumes at Ports of Stockholm have risen by 79 percent compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. A distinct trend can be seen in more goods owners and freight companies choosing to ship goods by sea, to arrive as close to the expanding Stockholm region as possible, said in the port's press release.
“It is very pleasing to see the market increasingly choosing sea transport to move goods to and from the growing Stockholm region,” says Henrik Widerståhl, Deputy Managing Director and Marketing Manager at Ports of Stockholm. “This has environmental benefits and decreases road and rail congestion,” he continues.
“We offer our customers rapid and efficient goods handling in the heart of Sweden’s largest consumer area,” says Martin Allison, CEO of Hutchison Ports Sweden, Ports of Stockholm’s international terminal operator.
The positive development in volumes has been further augmented by both MSC and CMA-CGM, two of the world’s largest shipping companies, recently choosing to call at Stockholm.
Unifeeder, Teamlines, SCA Transforest, MSC and CMA-CGM now all operate services to the container terminal in Stockholm.
