Floating LNG storage in Klaipeda (Lithuania) to be launched by late 2013
Floating LNG storage is planned to be launched in Klaipeda (Lithuania) by the end of 2013, IAA PortNews journalist cites Gintautas Kutka, director of the Lithuanian Ship Owners Association, as saying at the Helsinki-hosted conference dedicated to alternative marine fuels.
According to Kutka, the facility capable of storing 170,000 cubic meters of LNG is currently under construction in South Korea to the order of Hoegh LNG with Lithuania having already signed a contract for its lease.
The completion of dredging works at the site is scheduled for the middle of 2013. The LNG storage is supposed to be used also for bunkering of vessels. The project’s major purpose is the diversification of natural gas supplies.
