Gdańsk Shipyard to build 35 towers for Vestas Wind
GSG Towers announces that it has entered an agreement with the World’ leading turbine manufacturer, the Danish company Vestas Wind A/S. The Towers will be built in the Gdańsk Shipyard facilities and will be delivered to the largest wind farm in Ukraine. The contract is the beginning of a long-term cooperation agreement signed between Vestas and GSG Towers, said in the company's press release.
The contract between the GSG Towers and the leading Danish manufacturer of wind turbines includes 35 wind towers fully outfitted, with a length of 94 meters and the width of the base at 4,3 m. The weight of each tower will be around 200 tons. The towers will be shipped out directly from the production area to the port in Ukraine.
– „We have successfully conducted the pre-assessment studies together with Vestas - this is the basis for the signing of the contract. The work does not end here – there are substantial development plans to be executed together with Vestas specialists, which in itself will allow us to take further steps down the development of GSG Towers as a leading manufacturer of tower structures for the Wind Energy Industry in Europe” - says Thomas Gaardbo, vice president of GSG Towers.
– „This will be the first order to be made in a mutually beneficially co-operation between GSG Towers and Vestas Wind. The towers to be constructed in Gdansk will be part of the largest wind farm constructed in the Ukraine. We are committed to delivering the order in the best quality, and of course on time. Everyone is working very hard to secure that everything is ready for the production commencement” - he adds.
Production will commence in May this year, on the newly extended line for the construction of the towers located in Hall K1 in the Gdańsk Shipyard.
The order from Vestas has initially been placed by the Ukrainian company DTEK Group as the second phase of the Botievo project. The towers to be produced by GSG Towers in the Gdansk Shipyard facilities will be part of a wind farm with a capacity of 105 MW, where each tower will have a capacity of 3 MW. The farm will be built in the Ukraine region Zaporozhye on the south eastern shores of the Dnieper. The company DTEK Group has been operating successfully for more than ten years in the mining industry, and recently also in the renewable energy sector.
