Icebreakers Admiral Makarov and Krasin complete winter navigation in Tatar Strait
Icebreakers Admiral Makarov and Krasin of Far Eastern Shipping Company have completed winter navigation in the Tatar Strait. According to the press center of FESCO Group, the escort length in the Tatar Strait ranged from 87 to 187 miles this year.
During the operation period (from December 20 of 2012) the icebreakers escorted 14 loaded and 11 ballast tankers to and from De-Castri port. Icebreaking assistance of 11 tankers was provided simultaneously by two icebreakers. Over the winter navigation, the tankers transported 1.5 mln t of oil.
Escorting of large capacity tankers was carried out under the contract with Exxon Neftegas Limited. Besides, apart form her basic work, the Krasin was used for providing assistance at the approaches to Vanino port blocked by heavy ice. The Krasin made 46 icebreaking voyages (25 – to the port and 21 – from the port).
As it was reported earlier, the Admiral Makarov returned to the home port on April 3, the Krasin – on April 7.
