InterMoor awarded license to construct service base at Açu Superport in Brazil
InterMoor do Brasil Serviços Offshore de Instalaçao Ltda (InterMoor), an Acteon company, has been awarded a construction license to build facilities at the new Industrial Complex of Açu Superport located in São João da Barra in northern Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Construction of the Service Base will commence in April 2013, said in the company's press release.
The facility will be built on a 52,300 square-meter plot at the right bank of the terminal’s inland channel (TX2). InterMoor will provide a select range of services to meet specific needs of leading oil and gas clients and contractors operating in Brazil. InterMoor intends to keep the high HSEQ standards it is known for and that are demanded by the industry.
“This license is an important milestone for InterMoor and Acteon as we expand operations and in Brazil,” said InterMoor do Brasil Managing Director John Riggs. “A connection to the establishment of one of the world’s largest ports says much about our dedication to quality work and our ability to provide excellent service to projects of all magnitudes. InterMoor’s participation also adds to Acteon’s larger plan of expanding global subsea service offerings.”
The Açu Superport venture is designed to handle up to 350 million tons of cargo yearly establishing it among the world’s largest ports and as the largest multimodal industrial port venture in Latin America. The superport has an offshore terminal (TX1) along with the TX2 onshore terminal that jointly offers up to 47 berths with a minimum of 10 meters of water depth and a 17-kilometer pier.
TX2 will land and ship goods of a range of industries within the Industrial Complex including offshore support, marine fuel and drilling pipes and flexible risers industries. It has 2 million square-meters of property designated for the installation of offshore support industries and is set to become the leading support hub for the oil and gas industry and offshore E&P operations especially because of its proximity to the Campos, Santos and Espírito Santo basins.
