Passenger traffic on Russian Railways' network increases by 5.6% in March 2013
According to the latest figures, the Russian Railways' infrastructure carried 86.8 million passengers in March 2013, 5.6% more than during March last year, the company informs. Suburban commuters amounted to 78.9 million, up 6.3%, while long-distance passenger numbers reached 7.9 million, a slight decline of 1.1%.
Passenger turnover in March 2013 totalled 9.1 billion passenger-kilometres, 0.1% less than March last year.
In January-March 2013, the Russian Railways' infrastructure carried 238.4 million passengers, up 6.1% compared to the first quarter of 2012. Long-distance passengers amounted to 23.3 million, a fall of 2.5%, while suburban commuter numbers increased 7.2%.to 215 million.
Passenger traffic on the Russian Railways' network since the beginning of 2013 decreased by 1.6% compared to last year and amounted to 27 billion passenger-kilometres.
