On his visit to Lena United River Shipping Company (LORP), the Chairman of RF Government Dmitri Medvedev promised to order the development of a crediting system with lower loan rates for shipping and shipbuilding companies of the Far East and Siberia, LORP press center informs.
Dmitri Medvedev held a meeting with the members of the regional branch of the United Russia.
“The shipping companies operating at Siberian and Arctic rivers are in critical situation – if measures are not taken on fleet renovation we will lose almost the entire fleet in five years and fail to supply goods to northern Russia (Severny Zavoz). According to our experience, state support measures are not applicable to shipbuilding in areas with short navigation and long payback period – leasing schemes do not work here,” Sergey Larionov, LORP Director General, defined the problem.
His proposal was to develop specific measures to support shipping and shipbuilding within the basins of Siberian and Far East rivers at the level of RF Government.
“In our turn we are ready to contribute our proposals to this work”, - Larionov underlined.
Dmitri Medvedev promised to entrust Vnesheconombank with attracting of credit funds to handle this problem and to develop a new crediting system for shipping and shipbuilding companies of the Far East and Siberia.
