Newly developed vessel traffic simulation model can triple VCSC capacity
OJSC Soyuzmorniiproekt has developed a simulation model of vessel traffic along the Volga-Caspian Seaway Canal (VCSC) able to triple its capacity. According to the press center of the Astrakhan Regional Ministry of Industry, Transport and Natural Resources, preliminary review of the model took place in Astrakhan.
It was attended by the representatives of the Caspian Basin seaports’ administrations, hydrographic service of the Caspian Flotilla, Astrakhan Branch of FSUE Rosmorport, OJSC Soyuzmorniiproekt and the head of the transport and port department of the Astrakhan Regional Ministry of Industry, Transport and Natural Resources Vyacheslav Peregudov.
The first phase of the scientific research on “Studying the effect of natural and economic conditions on safe operation of Volga-Caspian Seaway Canal was carried out to the order of FSUE Rosmorport. According to Anatoli Anisimov, senior research assistant of the simulation modeling department of Soyuzmorniiproekt, the project’s core aim is to arrange the Canal operation with maximal reduction of navigation risks on the ground of comprehensive engineering surveys and examinations of the Canal (with the assessment of the technical status of the hydraulic engineering facility and the navigability analysis). This, in its turn, will ensure unhampered passing of vessels at the problem parts of the Canal and will make it possible to increase its capacity ant to solve the problem of one-way traffic.
In general, the personnel of the simulation modeling department believes that the effect achieved with the adequate process operation will ensure tree-fold increase of the Canal capacity.
