Throughput of Tallinn port down 5% to 5.4 mln tons in Jan’13
In January-February, 2013, the port of Tallinn handled 5.4 mln tons of cargo, which is a 5% decrease, year-on-year, the port’s Administration informs. The February throughput of the port fell by 4.4%, year-on-year, to 2.6 mln tons.
Over the 2-month period, transshipment of ro-ro cargo fell by 7.9%, year-on-year, while transshipment of liquid bulk cargo increased by 3.8% to 4.07 mln tons. The port’s container throughput climbed by 6.1% to 38,788 TEUs. Passenger flow gained 4.1% to 1.84 mln persons.
332 cargo vessels and 734 liners called on the port in the accounting period.
The port of Tallinn is the forth largest port in the Baltic sea after the ports of St. Petersburg, Primorsk and Ust-Luga. It comprises four port areas: Muuga, Old City Harbour, Paljassaare, Paldiski South and Saaremaa. In 2012, the port’s throughput fell by 19.2% to 27.4 mln tons.
