European Bulk Services starts construction of a new storage shed in port of Rotterdam
On february 28, European Bulk Services (EBS) started the construction of a new storage shed at the Laurenshaven terminal. The concrete building, with a net volume of 30,000m3, is scheduled to enter service in September 2013. By significantly expanding the storage capacity within reach of gantry cranes, it will increase the versatility of the Laurenshaven terminal, raise efficiency and will be more environment-friendly. The building will require an investment of some €5 million.
The new shed, 82x32x14 meters, will be suitable for dry bulk products of all kinds. It replaces four 50-year-old steel silos on the quay with a total capacity of 12,000 m3. The silos have already been demolished. The new shed will be 82m long, 32m wide and 14m high, divided into three bays. The roof will have six movable steel hatches which can be opened and closed remotely. The new facility enables EBS to respond more effectively to market demand for covered storage.
