Rosmorport beefs up its icebreaking fleet in the White Sea
On March 1, 2013 the icebreaker Captain Dranitsin set out for the White Sea from Port of Murmansk. The vessel will support a fleet of icebreakers deployed by Rosmorport in the White Sea to ensure smooth icebreaking assistance to merchant shipping to / from the port of Arkhangelsk and other ports in Kandalaksha Bay, Rosmorport said.
The Captain Dranitsin is more powerful as compared with other icebreakers of Rosmorport’s Arkhangelsk branch that will be in charge of the fleet during the winter navigational season.
The diesel-powered 24,000 hp Captain Dranitsyn has KM (*) LL3 [2] AUT2 class, 45mm-thick hull and a displacement of 12,288 tonnes. Built at Finland-based Wartsila Shipyard the ships was certified according to international standards as an icebreaker and a passenger ship to be operated in the Arctic harsh conditions.
