Cargo transportation by Volga Shipping up 8% to 7.3 mln t in 2012
The volume of cargo transported by Volga Shipping Company in navigation of 2012 totaled 7.3 mln tons, which is 8% up against the previous year result. According to the company’s press center, cargo turnover reached 8.9 bln t-km.
Domestic traffic increased by 21% to 4 mln tons. In particular, the growth was registered in transportation of construction materials (break-stone products and enriched sand and gravel mix), industrial salt, industrial raw materials and metal. The company revived transportation of gypsum rock and coal.
Transportation of export cargo with transshipment in estuary sea and river ports totaled 3.3 mln tons (- 4%).
In navigation of 2012 the company deployed the entire series of ten dry cargo carriers of the new fertilizers, grain and sulfur.
All in all, 210 vessels of Volga Shipping Company operated during the last year navigation including 76 motor vessels of Volga-Don type, 10 cargo vessels of Project RSD 44, 50 push-tug boats and 74 dry cargo units.
The company notes, that in 2012 it continued focusing on river transportation and consolidation of the related assets for optimization of VBTH structure. In particular, Volga Shipping Company acquired OJSC Voznesenskaya fleet REB and handed over all passenger vessels to Vodohod LLC.
