City and port of Rotterdam go to Japan
Monday, 28 January, is the first day of a week-long promotion trip through Japan by representatives of the Municipality of Rotterdam and the Port of Rotterdam Authority, according to media release. Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb and President and CEO of the Port Authority, Hans Smits are leading the delegation. There are two parallel programmes: one emphasising shipping companies, shippers and freight forwarders and one targeting maritime services, chemicals, bio-based raw materials and LNG as fuel for sea-going vessels.
The mayor and the port president will dedicate a lot of time to visiting potential customers and existing investors such as Shin-Etsu (chemicals), Nicherei (distribution) and MOL (shipping company/terminal owner). On Wednesday the Port Authority will hold a seminar together with JMC, the Japanese exporters’ organisation and the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency. More than 100 participants will be given an overview of the trends and developments in the port of Rotterdam area. The seminar will conclude with a networking reception. In addition, representatives of the large Japanese corporate groups will see a presentation on the industrial cluster (chemical, bio-based raw materials) during a dinner at the Dutch embassy. In Tokyo and Osaka contacts will be welcomed during concerts by the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, which is giving eight concerts in Japan.
