Russia’s accession to WTO may result in 25-pct loss of cargo by RF ports – stevedores
Russia’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) may result in loss of up to 25% of cargo by Russian ports. As PortNews IAA was told by the players of the stevedoring market it should be attributed to the revocation of the order earlier issued by the Federal Tax Service according to which railway tariffs for cargo transportation towards ports were lower than those towards border crossings. With Russia’s accession to the WTO the tariffs are to be calculated on the basis if the distance. Some shippers will find it more profitable to transship cargo via foreign ports of the neighbouring states.
