New maritime educational institution obtains its official name
A higher education institution uniting the Admiral Makarov State Maritime Academy (SMA) and St.-Petersburg State University of Waterway Communications got its official name on January 16, 2013 – federal state funded educational institution of higher vocational education “State University of Sea and River Fleet named after Admiral S.O. Makarov”, the University’s press center informs.
As PortNews IAA reported earlier, the order on reorganization of two large higher education institutions of the maritime branch through joining the Admiral Makarov State Maritime Academy and St.-Petersburg State University of Waterway Communications was signed by RF Transport Minister Maksim Sokolov on September 11, 2012.
The Academy’s history goes back to May 7, 1876. There are 8 faculties in the Academy: the Navigation Faculty, the Faculty of International Transport Management, the Marine Engineering Faculty, the Electric Engineering Faculty, the Radio Engineering Faculty, the Arctic Faculty, from 2009 – the Faculty of law, from 2010 – the Economics Faculty. In 1994 the Academy was attested by IMO Education and Certification Department.
The history of St.-Petersburg State University of Waterway Communications started in 1809. At present our University is large transport educational center for life-long learning training. Teaching of students and cadets is realized in technical, natural-scientific and humanitarian profiles.
