Throughput of Neva-Metal CJSC up 16% to over 2.8 mln t in 2012
In 2012, throughput of Neva-Metal CJSC handled over 2.8 mln tons of cargo, a 16-pct increase, year-on-year, the company’s press center reports.
In the reported period transshipment of dry bulk and general cargo grew 1.5 times with 100,000 tons of dry bulk cargo (4% of total cargo handled in 2012) and some 230,000 tons of general cargo (8% of total cargo handled in 2012).
Neva-Metal terminals continued handling of the majority of Severstal’s export metal. During the past year the company handled over 1.7 mln tons of ferrous metal from Cherepovets iron and steel works. It accounted for some 60% of the total volume of cargo handled by the company.
Container throughput totaled 49,000 TEUs (some 33,000 containers, 27%).
“The increase was demonstrated by all cargo types. It became possible owing to the purchase of the new specialized container equipment, optimization of the transport process, coordinated work of Severstal’s transport logistic and Neva-Metal CJSC,” said Mikhail Panov, Neva-Metal CEO. He said that in 2013 the company plans to continue buildup of ferrous metal and container handling.

The berths of Neva-Metal located in the 3rd Cargo Area of Big Port St. Petersburg are used for transshipment of ferrous metal of Cherepovets Steel Mill Severstal and secondary metals of Severstal-vtormet LLC as well as for handling of containerized cargo.
