LNG bunkering system ordered for Norwegian harbour
Netherlands based Cryonorm Systems says it has received an order from Skangass AS to install a liquified natural gas (LNG) bunkering system for Risavika harbour in Norway, Ship & Bunker reports.
"This is another milestone for both companies," said Jos Glorie, business development director at Cryonorm Systems.
According to the press release, the order consists of a turn key LNG bunkering system for ferries travelling from Norway to Denmark.
Cryonorm Systems say it will engineer, produce, install, and supervise the installation of the complete system.
Earlier this week, the European Union (EU) says it is providing more than €250,000 ($334,000) to a liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering project in the Port of Stockholm, as LNG, particularly for ferries, becomes an increasingly popular choice of fuel.
New York City is converting one of the ferries that travels between Staten Island and Manhattan to LNG, but Wärtsilä is claiming it will power the first North American LNG ferry, which was ordered by Société des traversiers du Québec (STQ) to be used on routes crossing the St. Lawrence River.
Also in Canada, BC Ferries are among a number of other ferry operators looking to make the switch, and say the move could cut its bunker bills in half.
