Throughput of Ust-Luga port (Leningrad reg.) doubles to 46.61 mln t in 2012
In 2012, throughput of Ust-Luga port in the Leningrad region totaled 46,612,344 tons, which is twice as much as the previous year’s result, press center of Ust-Luga Company reports.
In the reported period, the port’s stevedoring company handled 472,231 tons of general cargo, 15,591,379 tons of coal, 922,931 tons of cast iron, 1,101,402 tons of sulfur, 12,591,718 tons of oil product and 14,175,709 tons of crude oil.
The port handled 167,380 cars having increased the result of the previous year by 20% and 485,259 wagons, up 1.4 times, year-on-year.
Ust-Luga port is situated practically at the border of the Russian Federation and the European Union. The deep water area of the port (17.5 m) together with the short ship channel (3.7 km) make Ust-Luga port the only Russian port on the Baltic Sea capable of admitting dry-cargo vessels with the deadweight of up to 75,000 tonnes and liquid cargo carriers with the deadweight of up to 160,000 tonnes. In 2011, the port’s throughput totaled 22.737 mln tons. By 2018 the throughput of the port is expected to reach 180 mln tons of cargo.
