Singapore bunker sales bounce back in December
After slumping to a nine month low in November, official data from Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) showed bunker sales at the world's largest bunkering port by volume rebounded in December, rising 10.69% month-on-month to a five month high of 3,625,700 metric tonnes (mt) for all products.
It was the best monthly total since 3.66 million mt of bunker sales in July. Key grade IFO380 was up 14.11% to 2.84 million mt for the month, but MGO sales made a slight dip from 118,600 mt last month to 118,300 mt in December. Sales of 500 cSt product also dipped, falling 4.46% to 541,400 mt in December.
Vessel arrivals for December broke 11,000 for the first time since May, rising 3.38% month-on-month to a 2012 high of 11,275, while bunkers only calls dipped 2.57% month-on-month to a three month low of 3,151.
As reported last week, the December sales figures put the total bunker sales for all products in 2012 at 42.7 million tonnes, down 1.2% on 2011's record year for sales at the port and the first year-on-year dip in sales volume at the port since 2002.
