Throughput of Russia’s seaports up 5.6% to 565.5 mln t in 2012
In 2012 seaports of Russia increased their throughput by 5.9%, year-on-year, to 565.5 mln t, press centre of the Association of Commercial Sea Ports informs.
In the reported period transshipment of dry cargo totaled 251.7 mln t, up 7.3% mainly due to coal – 89.2 mln tons (+13.%), containerized cargo – 42.7 mln tons (+8.3%), ferrous metal – 25.6 mln tons (+4.8%), grain – 24.0 mln tons (+23.3%), non-ferrous metals – 4.2 mln tons (+2.0%). Besides, transshipment of cargo carried by ferries grew to 8.3 mln tons (+6.1%). However the past year saw a decrease in transshipment of mineral fertilizers – by 17.0% to 10.4 mln tons, ore – by 10.6% to 7.2 mln tons, timber cargo – by 3.9% to 5.9 mln tons, refrigerated cargo – by 14.1% to 3.9 mln tons and scrap metal – by 3.2% to 3.7 mln tons.
Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo totaled 313.8 mln tons, a 4.3-pct increase, year-on-year, including 197.0 mln tons of crude oil (+1.8%) and 114.0 mln tons of oil products (+8.0%).
Transshipment of export cargo amounted to 446.2 mln tons, up 8.9%, year-on-year, import cargo - 47.4 mln tons (+6.2%). Transshipment of transit cargo fell by 18.4% to 40.2 mln tons, coastal trade cargo- by 1.0% to 31.7 mln tons caused by decreased transshipment of crude oil. Meanwhile, transshipment of dry coastal freight raised by 4.3% to 18.8 mln tons.
In the Arctic Basin, operators of sea terminals handled 38.7 mln tons, down 5.7%, year-on-year. Transshipment of dry cargo increased to 23.9 mln tons (+6.9%), liquid bulk cargo – fell to 14.8 mln tons (-20.7%). Throughput of Archangelsk port grew to 5.2 mln tons (+20.9%), Dudinka – to 1.1 mln tons (+2.8%). Throughput of Vitino ports fell to 3.8 mln tons (-10.6%), Varandei – to 3.1 mln tons (-21.5%) and Kandalaksha – to 0.7 mln tons (-20.7%). Throughput of Murmansk port fell by 7.8% to 23.7 mln tons due to decreased handling of crude oil while transshipment of dry cargo increased by 8.5% to 18.2 mln tons.
The ports of the Baltic Sea increased transshipment to 207.2 mln tons (+11.6%) with dry cargo comprising 75.4 mln tons (+4.8%), liquid bulk cargo– 131.8 mln tons (+15.9%). Throughput of Ust-Luga port grew to 46.8 mln tons (double increase owing to launching of liquid bulk terminals and increased coal transshipment). Vysotsk raised its transshipment to 13.6 mln tons (+1.6%), Vyborg – to 1.5 mln tons (+32.5%). However, Big Port St. Petersburg handled 57.8 mln tons (-3.6%), port Primorsk - 74.8 mln tons (-0.5%), Kaliningrad - 12.7 mln tons (-4.8%).
Throughput of ports in the Azov and Black Sea Basin totaled 175.3 mln tons, up 1.5%, year-on-year. Transshipment of dry cargo increased to 69.3 mln tons (+9.0%), liquid bulk cargo fell to 106.0 mln tons (-2.9%). The port of Novorossiysk handled 117.4 mln tons (+1.1%), Rostov - 11.1 mln tons (+8.0%), Kavkaz - 9.4 mln tons (+13.4%), Azov 5.1 mln tons (+6.6%) and Taman 2.2 mln tons (up 1.8 times with launching of a new grain complex). At the same time throughput of Tuapse port fell by 8.2% to 17.8 mln tons, Yeisk – by 11.6% to 3.6 mln tons, Taganrog – by 1.4% to 3.4 mln tons иand Temryuk – by 3.5% to 2.3 mln tons.
Seaports of the Caspian Basin handled 10.0 mln tons of cargo (-5.1%) including 4.7 mln tons of dry cargo (-17.0%), 5.4 mln tons of liquid bulk cargo (+8.4%). Throughput of Astrakhan port fell by 30.2% to 3.2 mln tons, while throughput of Makhachkala increased by 12.5% to 6.0 mln tons and Olya – up 1.3 times to 0.8 mln tons.
In the Far East Basin the ports’ throughput increased to 134.2 mln tons (+6.9%). Transshipment of dry cargo reached 78.5 mln tons (+10.3%), liquid bulk cargo - 55.7 mln tons (+2.5%). The increase was demonstrated by Vostochny – to 42.5 mln tons (+10.9%), Vanino – to 20.3 mln tons (+6.5%), Nakhodka – to 16.9 mln tons (+12.8%), Vladivostok – to 13.2 mln tons (+10.9%), Posiet – to 5.8 mln tons (+9.5%), Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky – to 2.6 mln tons (+7.1%), Shakhtersk - to 1.7 mln tons (+11.3%) and Magadan – to 1.3 mln tons (+10.2%). Throughput of De-Kastri port fell by 8.3% to 7.4 mln tons, Kholmsk – down 15.3% to 1.9 mln tons.
