Congestion of 1600 loaded wagons in Kaliningrad ports and terminals - KRW
Kaliningrad Railway (KRW) is concerned about wagon unloading in Kaliningrad ports and terminals. The issue was discussed at the railway board briefing, KRW press center reports.
As of January 6, 2013 over 1600 wagons congested non-public railway tracks due to a fault of several companies handling cargo in Kaliningrad ports and terminals.
“The main cause of the excessive downtime of wagons is an insufficient unloading because of absence of empty oil product tanks and consignee’s poor logistic organization conventional for this time,” the release says.
In particular, KRW administration is highly concerned about the situation as the most of cargo accumulated in the regional center, Baltijsk and Svetly is of a dangerous category (bulk oil cargo).
Accumulation of wagons with dangerous cargo in the central part of Kaliningrad and other cities of the region increases the risk of accidents and emergency situations. Besides it has a negative effect on KRW operation.
In order to improve the situation KRW has appealed to the heads of ports and terminals for effective measures on wagon unloading.
