Cargo loading on RZD network rose 2.4% to 1.27 bn tons in 2012
The volume of cargo loading across the network of JSC Russian Railways (RZD) in 2012 totaled 1,271,900,000 tons, a 2.4-percent gain as compared with the last year’s numbers, the state-owned company said.
Coal shipment rose 3.9% y-o-y to 307.6 million tons, coke volume reached 12.7 million tons (-2%), oil and petroleum products – 258.2 million tons (+3.3%), iron and manganese ore - 110 million tons (-0.8%), ferrous metals - 73.4 million tons (-0.2%), ferrous metals - 18 million tons (-10.7%), chemical and mineral fertilizers - 45.1 million tons (-3.1%), cement - 35 million tons (+1.3%), timber cargo - 36.2 million tons (-10.8%), grain and milled grain products - 20.4 million tons (+1.7%), construction materials - 180.4 million tons (+14.4%), ferrous ore and sulfur raw material – 22.2 million tons (-6.4%), chemicals and soda - 28 million tons (-2.6%), industrial raw materials and molding materials - 35.6 million tons (+5.2%).
Freight turnover in 2012 amounted to 2222 bn of tariff ton / km (+4.4%), turnover including empty freight car miles rose 2.9% to 2782.2 bn ton/km.
In December, loading of cargo on the network of RZD reached 101.5 million tons, down 3.7% from the same period last year. The monthly freight turnover shrank year-on-year by 1.2% to 186.6 billion tariff t / km, taking into account empty runs in December slid 2.7% to 234.3 bn t/km.
