SILPORT throughput rose 32% in 2012
Cargo traffic at the Estonian Port of Sillamäe (SILPORT) in 2012 grew by 32% year-over-year to 6.5 million tons, rus.err.ee. reports.
The volume growth was driven by cargo handling at the terminals Alexela Sillamäe, BCT, Silsteve and Tankchem.
The most important events for SILPORT in the reporting period was the launch by ULS Global Group of ferry lines between Sillamae and Ust-Luga port, which connected two global economic space of the EU and CES member countries (Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus), as well as the construction of a container terminal and a general cargo transshipment terminal.
Besides, SILPORT has expanded its railways to 14 building 4 new sidetracks and completed the tunnel under the railway for trucks.
In 2013, SILPORT plans to complete the construction of a container terminal and a terminal for handling general cargoes. The facilities completion is scheduled for the autumn. Also the company authorities project for the year the construction of the dock side railway tracks and overhaul of SILPORT’s CHP.
Port of Sillamäe (SILPORT) is located in the north-eastern Estonia. The port’s operator JSC SILPORT is a joint Russian-Estonian company. In 2011, SILPORT cargo volumes soared 40 percent year-over-year to 4.9 million tons.
