Kochi LPG outer harbour project planned
The proposed projects for a Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) terminal in Kochi and an outer harbour for the port of Kochi are moving ahead with the Port Trust inviting bids from qualified companies for carrying out geo-technical investigations for the projects, Daily Shipping Times reports.
The proposed outer harbour is part of the Port’s expansion plans and was mooted about a year ago. The port authority here had looked to help from foreign institutional agencies to carry out the feasibility studies and preliminary investigations for the project.
The outer harbour is among the schemes that have been drawn up to expand the port’s activities in the wake of the container operations being shifted out of the Willingdon Island since February last year.
The International Container Transshipment Terminal now operates out of the new facility on Vallarpadam island. The port’s invitation for bids said that the LPG berth was for the Indian Oil Corporation. The berth is proposed to be set up on the southern side of the Puthuvype Island.
