Buyan class corvettes to take part in naval drills in the Caspian Sea
The Buyan class corvettes of Project 21630 (designed by Zelenodolsk Design Bureau) of the Caspian Flotilla, the Astrakhan and the Volgodonsk set sail for the Caspian Sea for joint combat training tasks, the Southern Military District press office said. The Volgodonsk will make her debut, after successful completion of state acceptance sea trials.
During ten-day naval drills the ‘stealth’ ships will be performing several specific tasks, including including artillery firing at sea, coastal and air targets, etc.
The small-size gunnery ships Astrakhan and Volgodonsk feature small draft (max - about 2 m) and high maneuverability. This enables the vessels to solve a wide range of tasks in the littoral zone of the Caspian Sea, on the river and at the mouth, as well as at other shallow waters.
The ships armament includes: 100-mm A-190 gun, fitted forward, two 30 mm six-barreled AK-630, 40-barreled A-215 "Grad-M" 122mm MLRS.
