RTL boosts car imports via Russian ports
Shipments of imported vehicles to Russia by RTL Group through the country’s ports totaled in January-September about 106,000 new cars. Roughly about the same number was handled during the same period a year ago, the Group said.
RTL imported and provided customs clearance of cars of major manufacturers: Nissan, Infiniti, Renault, Ford, Opel, Chevrolet, Honda, Mazda. The imported vehicles were shipped through Ro-Ro terminals of Big Port St. Petersburg (Sea Fishing Port) and Ust-Luga-based Novaya Gavan and the Port of Vladivostok.
By the end of 2012, RTL intends to boost new autos imports through Russia’s ports by 15% in comparison with 2011, to 310,000 units.
Moscow-headquartered LLC RTL Group (RTL) was founded in 2004 as a 3PL service provider. In 2005, the company started operating directly with major car manufacturers. In 2006, RTL Group in conjunction with Sea Fishing Port commissioned the first Russian marine terminal for handling imported vehicles at the port of St. Petersburg. In 2011, RTL Group inaugurated the Novaya Gavan terminal at the port of Ust-Luga. So far, private investments in the facility have totaled RUB 1.5 billion and the Group is set to inject 3 billion more until 2014, while public investment for the same period is expected to reach RUB 2.5bn.
