Singapore unveils investment in marine and offshore industry
Singapore's Workforce Development Agency (WDA) will set aside S$2.3m ($1.9m) to raise productivity and groom future leaders in the marine and offshore industry, Seatrade Asia online reports.
The government funding will go two programmes named Workforce Skills Qualification (WSQ) Operations Management Innovation Programme (OMNI@Marine) and a scholarship scheme Skills Training for Excellence Programme (STEP).
Under OMNI@Marine, developed by WDA in collaboration with the Association of Singapore Marine Industries (ASMI) and the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech), WDA will provide course fee subsidies of up to 90% for small and medium-sized enterprises, or up to 70% for multinational corporations.
STEP Marine & Offshore Scholarship, jointly initiated by WDA and ASMI, allows local, company-sponsored executives to study for a master of science in marine technology offered by Newcastle University. WDA will fund up to 80% of the course fees for the company-sponsored scholarship recipients, while participating companies will pay the remaining 20%.
