Singapore may build second LNG terminal
Singapore may build a second LNG terminal in view of anticipated strong demand for the environmentally-friendly fossil fuel, said S Iswaran, minister in the prime minister's office and second minister for home affairs and trade & industry, Seatrade Asia online reports.
“It depends on timing and opportunities,” Iswaran said at an industry conference held in Singapore this week. He added that “demand for LNG (in Singapore) is already stronger than initially expected.”
Singapore is already building a first S$1.7bn ($1.4bn) LNG terminal on Jurong Island that is scheduled to come on-stream in the second quarter of 2013, importing LNG gas feedstock for power plants and industries. The new facility will also incorporate LNG bunkering services by end-2014 or early-2015.
The project is already adding a third storage tank and looks set to add two more tanks, estimated to cost a further $400m.
