Kherson Shipyard launches first Ukrainian product tanker
Kherson Shipyard based in Ukraine, part of a Smart Maritime Group’s shipbuilding division Smart Holding, hosted a ceremonial keel laying for product tanker of Project RST27. This is the first in a series of complete vessels built under the contact worth $50 million with Malta-based SVL Group, the shipbuilding company press release said.
The product tanker is designed for sea and mixed river-sea shipping of crude oil and petroleum products, including gasoline, with no flash point limits (permanent temperature of 60ºC). The ship can carry simultaneously two types of oil products.
The tanker design incorporates special requirements of oil companies, as well as additional environmental restrictions of ECO-S class of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping.
The solemn ceremony was attended by Mykola Kostyak, head of Kherson Region’s State Administration, Victor Pelykh, head of the regional Council, Kherson Mayor Volodymyr Saldo.
Kherson Shipyard and SVL Group signed the contract for a series of three product tankers of Project RST27 in 2011. The lead ship was laid down on October 21, 2011. The second and third vessels are completed by 64% and 59%, respectively. The vessels delivery is scheduled for 2013.
The vessel’s main characteristics: salt / fresh water DWT - 6980/5378 tons, LOA - 140.85 m, beam - 16.86 m, depth - 6 m, the volume of six cargo tanks and two slop tanks - 8100 cbm, operational speed - 10 knots.
