Latvian small ports traffic down 8.4 percent
In the first nine months of 2012, Latvia's small ports handled 1.03 tons of cargo, 8.4% less than in the respective period in 2011, when the ports handled 1.12 million tons of cargo, according to data from the Latvian Port, Transit and Logistics Council, the Baltic Course reports.
During the reporting period, Skulte Port handled 480,900 tons, the largest cargo volume, but 12.2% less than in the first nine months of 2011, when the port handled 548,000 tons, LETA reported.
Mersrags Port's cargo turnover reduced 3.7% to 316,000 tons. Salacgriva Port's cargo turnover was 200,100 tons – 1% less than in January-September 2011.
Roja Port handled 29,800 tons of cargo in January-September 2012, 31.7% less than in the corresponding period in 2011. Pavilosta Port handled 1,800 tons of cargo – 12.5% more.
