Port of Los Angeles container throughput up six percent in September
Los Angeles saw containers pouring in during September, with the California port recording its strongest single month since August 2010, Cargonews Asia reports.
Overall container volumes increased almost six percent in September compared to the same month in 2011, with the total reaching 744,923 TEUs, the busiest month in two years.
For the first nine months of 2012, overall container volumes have increased 5.16 percent to 6.188 million TEUs, compared to the same period in 2011 when 5.88 million TEUs were handled.
Factoring in empties, which increased 20.01 percent year over year, overall September 2012 volumes (744,923) increased 5.57 percent compared to September 2011 (705,623 TEUs).
Imports increased 3.38 percent, from 372,655 TEUs in September 2011 to 385,250 TEUs this September. Exports decreased 2.56 percent, from 176,954 TEUs in September 2011 to 172,432 TEUs in September 2012.
