Port of Tuapse cargo traffic down 11 percent to 12.4 mln tons
Cargo handling at Tuapse Commercial Sea Port (TMTP) in January-September 2012 fell 11% compared to the same period 12.4 million tons, the company press release said.
The cargo volume drop was attributed to the a 25-percent decline in oil cargo transshipment (to 7.6m tons) as a result of redistribution of export flows.
In the reporting period Port of Tuapse increased handling of dry bulk cargo by 26% to 4.8 million tons. Grain exports through the Tuapse terminal jumped by 2.4 times to 1.5 million tons, shipment of metals soared as much as 10 times from a year earlier, to 1 million tons. Coal volume was down 9% year-on-year, to 2.1 million tons.
Overall, outbound cargoes, the bulk of freight flows passing through the port of Tuapse totaled 12.3 million tons (-8%). The nine-month volume of imports plummeted by 85% to 91,000 tons (-85%).
Raw sugar imports plunged by 95% to 27,000 tons on the back of falling demand in the market of Russia and CIS countries. Shipments of fruits and vegetables also fell year-over-year 25% to 63,400 tons.
In the reporting period, Tuapse port handled 596 cargo ships (351 dry bulk carriers, 245 oil tankers) and 72,000 rail cars.
Tuapse Commercial Sea Port JSC (TMTP), founded in 1994, is the main stevedore company operating at one of the largest ports in Russia - the Port of Tuapse. TMTP is majority owned by UCL Port (65.06%), which is part of the international transportation group UCL Holding. Russian Government holds a 25% stake in TMTP.
