UL UTC throughput soars 30% to 2.2 mln tons
Cargo handling at LLC Universal Transshipment Complex (UTC) based at the port of Ust-Luga in January-September 2012 totaled 2.2 million tons, a 30-percent growth year-on-year, the company said.
In the reporting period, thermal coal exports rose to 1.5 million tons (+30%), of iron - to 691,000 tons (+23%). The company handled 44,000 tons of imported manganese ore. The growth was attributed to boosted exports of Russian metallurgical companies, as well as to the expansion of cargo base of the terminal.
LLC Universal Transshipment Complex (part of UCL Port, a subholding combining stevedoring assets of the international transport group UCLH) is a terminal based at the port of Ust-Luga (Leningrad region), specializing in offloading, storage and shipping of import / export of general and bulk cargoes. In 2011, cargo throughput at LLC UTC was 2.4 million tons.
