Fjellstrand AS inks Ulstein SX 163 ISV contract with Siem Offshore
Fjellstrand AS has signed a contract with Siem Offshore Rederi AS. for the construction of an Infield Support Vessel designed by Ulstein Design and Solution AS (Ulstein SX 163) and with an option for one additional vessel, the shipbuilding firm press release said.

A strong growth in the offshore wind industry brings forward a great demand for large vessels of high quality operating in connection with installations and service of the wind farms.
“The vessel shall be used for operations within the offshore renewable energy market and within the offshore oil and gas market with regards to installation, repair, maintenance and general service duties.” says Terje Sorensen in Siem Offshore.
The hull will be built abroad and the outfitting will be performed at the Fjellstrand Yard in Omastrand by the Hardangerfjord.
The building of two large offshore vessels and 6 “Wind Server Vessels” for the offshore wind market, will secure high activity at Fjellstrand AS towards the first quarter of 2014.
Omastrand-headquartered Norway company Fjellstrand was founded in 1928. The shipyard specializes in construction of high speed passenger and car-carrying catamaran ferries. The company designs and builds living quarters, superstructures, ROV hangars and other marine and offshore constructions in aluminium. Besides, Fjellstrand produces offshore special vessels: survey vessels, ROV vessels, multi-purpose subsea construction vessels (MPSCV), platform supply vessels (PSV), seismic vessels and anchor handling and tug supply (AHTS) of different designs.
