NAO Governor presses for Port Amderma handover to region’s ownership
Governor of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug (NAO) Igor Fedorov is set to insist on transfer of seaport of Amderma (Kara Sea, NAO) from the Federal Agency for State Property Management (Rosimushchestvo) to the ownership of the region, the governor NAO said at a meeting with locals of Amderma village.
"Discussing the problems and prospects of the port in Amderma we will raise the question of the possibility of transferring the property complex to the ownership of the NAO, and will consider how to invest in it," he said.
According to Fedorov, now the port is undergoing insolvency proceedings and in a month will have been excluded from the State Register of Legal Entities. "Unfortunately, I was unable to prevent the port’s bankruptcy, because at the time I took office - in 2009 – its insolvency proceedings had been launched," said the official.
However, the port remains the most important element of the transport system for supply of Amderma, populated by 300 people. Sea-going ships transport cargoes for the village (diesel fuel, equipment and food) in line with the Program of Northern delivery. The vessels unload the cargoes onto barges and pontoons at offshore anchorage of the port of Amderma, which deliver the cargoes to the port berth.
Amderma is one of the small northern ports of Russia, located in the southern part of the Kara Sea in the Yugra Peninsula. The port operates only during the summer season, which lasts from early June through November. The port is located at the mouth of the river of Amderminka.
