Admiralty Shipyards to deliver RV Akademik Treshnikov to Rosgydromet
An official handover and flag-hoisting ceremony for Research Vessel Akademik Treshnikov will be held today, October 10 at Admiralty Shipyards. The ceremony will be attended by Russian PM Dmitry Medvedev, the shipbuilding firm press service said.
The RV Akademik Treshnikov was built for the Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring of Russia (Rosgydromet). The new flagship of scientific expedition fleet will replace the RV Akademik Fedorov and will be engaged in support of the Russian Antarctic Expedition.
The RV Akademik Treshnikov was designed at CDB Baltsudoproekt. The ship combines the functions of an icebreaker, dry bulk carrier, passenger ship and of a research base. The vessel features high ice class, modern navigation equipment, two helicopter pads, research labs for processing of the results of oceanography, atmospheric sounding and other scientific experiments.
General characteristics: length - 133, 59 m, beam - 23 m, depth - 13.5 m, draft - 8.5 m, deadweight - 5580 tons, operational speed in open water - 16 knots, speed in the 1.1m-thick ice - 2 knots, endurance - 45 days, range – 15,000 nm, crew - 60, expedition personnel - 80, two Ka-32 helicopters. The vessel is powered by three Wartsila main engines 2h6300 kW 1h4200 kW, two main propulsion motors 2h7100 kW.
Admiralty Shipyards (Admiralteysky Verfy) is the oldest Russian shipbuilder, founded back in 1704. The company is part of Western Center of Shipbuilding controlled by United Shipbuilding Corporation. JSC Admiralty Shipyards specializes in the design, construction and upgrade of civil vessels and warships for the Russian Navy. To date, the Company has built more than 300 submarines (including 41 nuclear-powered subs) and 68 deep submergence vehicles and ROVs.
Currently, Admiralty Shipyard is building two series of six submarines: Project 636.1 for foreign navies and Project 636.3 for the Russian Navy. The shipyard is also executing an order for a salvage ship (Igor Belousov) with DSRV "Bester-1" on the board.
