Port of Rotterdam to develop inland container terminal
The Port of Rotterdam is to receive a US$597,500 subsidy from the province of Gelderland for construction of a container terminal at the Medel industrial park in Tiel, Netherlands, reported SeeNews Shipping.
The terminal will have an annual capacity of 80,000 containers per year. A big part of the containers will contain temperature-controlled cargo.
The facility's construction is one of the sub-projects of the port authority's Fresh Corridor programme, aimed at usage of inland shipping services for transportation of fresh products.
The terminal's construction has already attracted global interest, the port said. The regional planners' goal is setting up of an international transport hub around the Medel area, with two container terminals and associated commercial activity.
