Admiralty Shipyards to deliver RV Akademik Treshnikov on Wed.
St. Petersburg-based Admiralty Shipyards plans to deliver to the Customer the research vessel (RV) Akademik Treshnikov on October 10, 2012, the shipbuilding company said. The handover ceremony will be attended by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.
The vessel of Project 22280 was built for the Federal Hydrometeorological and Environmental Monitoring Service (Roshydromet) and will be engaged in support of the Russian Antarctic expedition.
The ship was launched on March 29, 2011 and in the summer underwent her first sea trials. The RV Akademik Treshnikov should replace the outdated Akademik Fedorov.
Admiralty Shipyards (Admiralteysky Verfy) is the oldest Russian shipbuilder, founded back in 1704. The company is part of Western Center of Shipbuilding controlled by United Shipbuilding Corporation.
