Posiet Coal Terminal upgrade is scheduled for completion
Modernization of Metchel-owned Coal Terminal located in the port of Posiet (Primorsky Krai) is scheduled for completion in the fall, 2012, the Port Posiet Board member said.
Commercial Port of Posiet’s CEO, Marine & River Shipping and Handling, Dmitry Delitsyn said on the sidelines of the 5th International Forum "Russian Ports" that an annual traffic volume passing through the port’s terminals totals over 4 million tons. After overhaul, the port’s throughput will grow to 9 million tons, the investor said.
The modernization project includes canal dredging and building berths to enable access of Panamax vessels. Now, the terminal can accommodate two Handysize vessels at a time and a 5,000-ton ship.
The company has already installed car dumper, railcar thawing system and other facilities installed. The terminal is now able to discharge 300 rail cars a day, after the upgrade, this figure will rise.
Coal comes from the terminal business, "Mechel" ("Yakutugol"), including the Elga coal deposit and the southern Kuzbass. After the construction of new coal terminal in the port of Vanino, Elga coal deposit will be redirected to it. terminal in the Port Modernization Posiet also eliminate the need of coal, "Mechel" through third-party terminals in the Far East.
Port Posiet is located on the Japan Sea coast south of Vladivostok in the Gulf of Posiet. Commercial Port Posiet belongs to a group of companies Mechel (JSC Mechel-Trans holds a 96% stake). The port handles primarily the products of Mechel Group.
