Port of Seattle honors 2011 Firefighter of the Year
The Port of Seattle Fire Department is honoring Captain Todd Starkey with the 2011 Port of Seattle Firefighter of the Year award. The person honored with this award each year is chosen by a vote of all the department members,the PoS press release said.
“Captain Starkey’s co-workers recognized his commitment, loyalty and hard work for his nomination,” said Port of Seattle Fire Chief Randy Krause. “His work inside and outside of the station exemplifies the quality of officer we at the Port strive to produce.”
Captain Starkey’s peers recognized his motivation and his positive, professional attitude to distinguish him for this year’s award. He is a Seattle area native who has served with the Port of Seattle Fire Department for seven years. He is a member of the Hazardous Materials and tech rescue teams, an instructor at the Washington State Patrol Fire Academy in North Bend, as well as a member of the executive board of Local 1257. He was promoted to captain nine months ago.
Captain Starkey continually dedicates himself to numerous projects and committees, such as: Recruitment and Promotional Committee, the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee program, and coordination of the annual Beat the Burn 5K Fun Run to support the Washington State Council of Firefighters Burn Foundation.
The Marine Corps veteran is a father of a two-year old son, Cole, with his wife, Jamey.
Other members who were nominated this year include Adam Griffin, Greg Baruso, Dale Hornung, Chris Nuttall, Laura Smith, and Brian Waldron. All candidates continue to contribute a great deal to our department and we are very appreciative of all their contributions.
