Ust-Luga traffic volume to outpace Primorsk and St. Petersburg ports throughput
Freight volume passing through the Port of Ust-Luga will exceed the cargo throughput at the ports of Primorsk and Big Port St. Petersburg in the next two years, the Ust-Luga Company official said.
The construction of a logistics center encompassing 100 ha is scheduled to begin this year, Ust-Luga Comp. Deputy CEO Alexander Goloviznin said on the sidelines of the 5th International Forum "Russian Ports".
Earlier, the Ust-Luga Board’s Chairman Valery Izraylit has told that the port expansion project includes 20 terminals. Eleven facilities have been completed, the construction of seven terminals is underway and two terminals will be commissioned in the future.
Port of Ust-Luga is located nearly on Russia’s border with the EU. The port is implementing dredging the harbor area and a 3.7km approach canal to 17.5 meters. Ust-Luga also expects to have the second approach canal completed by the end of this year. The port will become the only Russian port on the Baltic Sea capable of accommodating 75,000dwt bulkers and 120,000dwt tankers.
JSC Ust-Luga Company was founded in 1992 for implementation of the Port of Ust-Luga project of capacity of 180 million tons of cargo per year.
