Concordia Maritime orders fuel efficient newbuilds
Swedish tanker shipping company Concordia Maritime AB (Concordia Maritime) has ordered two fuel efficient chemical parcel tankers at a cost of SEK 550 million (USD $78 million), the company said in a press release.
The vessels of approximately 50,000 dwt are being built by Chinese shipyard Guangzhou Shipyard International Co., Ltd. (GSI) for delivery at the end of 2014 or beginning of 2015.
Concordia Maritime says the design focus of the ships, which are part of a series of six tankers, has been on "energy efficiency and cargo flexibility."
"This is a natural development for us, investing in vessels with very good fuel efficiency," said company president Hans Norén.
The company, which is listed on Nasdaq OMX Stockholm, said its intention was to employ the vessels in the open market via its partner Stena Weco, which is a joint venture between Stena Bulk and Danish Dannebrog.
