Russia's Economy Ministry pushes for privatization of Transcontainer
Economic Development Ministry Andrey Belousov said on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum that he opposed the plan to abandon the privatization of container transportation operator TransContainer. "The company's privatization should not lead to the establishment of a new monopoly," RBC quotes the official as saying.
Earlier during the day, Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov said that the state-owned stake in TransContainer could be assigned to a logistics operator of the Customs Union, which is about to be established by Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan, as Russia's contribution to the venture.
Vladimir Yakunin, head of Russian Railways, which owns TransContainer, confirmed that the stake could be assigned, saying that "It also means privatization."
