Russian Caspian ports stevedores to submit development plans until July 15
The Astrakhan region authorities ordered stevedoring companies operating at the ports of the Caspian Sea to submit their development plans and proposals for a number of issues prior to July 15, 2012, the Government of the Astrakhan region said.
Yuri Makhoshvili, regional Minister of Industry, Transport and Natural Resources said at a recent meeting, addressing the issues of the development of port facilities in the Caspian region, that Russian Federation pays particular attention to the Astrakhan region’s and its facilities development. In November 2011, the Russian Government created FSI The Authority of Ports of the Caspian Basin, headed by Port of Astrakhan Harbormaster Mohammed Abdulatipov. The institution is headquartered in Astrakhan with branches in the ports of Olya and Makhachkala.
The Russian Government have tasked the Caspian port stevedores to boost cargo handled up to 30 million tons with a 15% reserve to keep the country's position on the Caspian Sea. For its part, the federal authorities will provide assistance and support. But this requires that all 20 stevedoring companies of the Astrakhan region submit as soon as possible the long-term development plans of the businesses.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Authority of Ports of the Caspian Basin, Customs, Rosprirodnadzor, Rosselkhoznadzor, as well as managers of ports and stevedoring companies. The meeting was focused on the interim performance results of the stevedoring companies.
