Singapore container throughput up 8.6% to 2.79mln TEU in May
Singapore, the world's second busiest container port, registered higher container handling volumes in May, Seatrade Asia online reports.
The city-state recorded 2.79m teu of throughput last month, an improvement of 8.6% compared to 2.57m teu recorded in the same month of 2011. Last month's figure also beat April's throughput of 2.6m teu, according to data from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).
From January to May, Singapore posted 12.93m teu of throughput, up 6.9% compared to 12.1m teu in the corresponding period of 2011.
