Advance notice of arrival to be introduced in Baltic Customs in 2012
The system of advance notice of arrival, pre-arrival electronic cargo declaration will be widely used by customs posts of the Baltic Customs before the end of 2012, the regional Customs’ press office said.
Currently, the scheme is being tested but the representatives of the business community has had many questions associated with the advance notification application, the chief of Customs Control of the Baltic Customs Andrei Mikhailyuk said at a meeting with representatives of shipping companies.
To date the Baltic Customs is carefully studying all the nuances and challenges that may arise during the technology application. The customs post of Kronstadt has processed so far eight ships of Hyundai Merchant Marine CO, Ltd. using the scheme.
The container carrier APL also has submitted pre-arrival information about the ship and cargo. Besides, such carriers as Containerships and MSC would be willing to participate in the experiment. In the future, the application of advance notice of arrival will be expanded in Big Port St. Petersburg.
