Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering bids for Caspian Sea EPC contract
Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Holdings Bhd (MMHE) is bidding for an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the 6,000-tonne Central Diyabekir wellhead platform in Turkmenistan, Seatrade Asia online reports.
MMHE managing director and chief executive officer Dominique de Soras was reported as saying the company had jointly bid for the contract with Turkish-based Ilk Construction.
Potential partner Ilk Construction won a $78m contract from Petronas in March this year to procure, construct, hook up, commission and tie back the West Diyabekir wellhead platform to the facilities in the Magtymguly field in Turkmenistan.
MMHE recently completed the Block 1 Phase 1 onshore gas terminal project owned by Petronas Carigali Turkmenistan Sdn Bhd (PCTSB). Contract value for the wellhead platform deal was not disclosed but is expected to be lower than the earlier contract.
Petronas reportedly plans to start up Central Diyabekir production in 2017 and construction is expected to take 14 months. The tender is also believed to have attracted interest from at least two other groups, Leighton Holdings' Malaysian unit and Malaysia's KNM Group.
