Baltic Coal Terminal throughput jumps 43 percent
Coal shipments through Ventspils-based Baltic Coal Terminal in January-May 2012 surged by 43 percent year-over-year to 2,138,200 tons, the stevedore company said.
In May, coal traffic at the facility increased by 8% from last year’s numbers to 451,970 tons.
Baltic Coal Terminal is a JV of two companies: CJSC MPO Kuzbass and Ventspils Commercial Sea Port. In 2010, coal throughput at the terminal amounted to about 2 million tons. Currently, the coal handled at the BCT’s terminal is exported largely to the UK, Belgium, Spain and Morocco. The terminal’s indoor warehouse allows simultaneous storage of 210,000 tons of coal, (capacity - 6 m t/y). The two companies have invested in the first phase of the terminal EUR 80 million.
