Muuga CT container traffic soars 31 percent
Container throughput at AS Muuga CT (subsidiary of Transiidikeskuse AS) in January-May 2012 totaled 97,054 TEUs, a 31-percent spike from the same period of last year, Transiidikeskuse Board’s Chairman Erik Laidvee said.
In May, container traffic at the terminal totaled 20,025 TEUs.
AS Refetra, another subsidiary of Transiidikeskuse handled in January-May 293,6 tons of general cargo, a 21-percent gain from the same period of last year. The total five-month cargo volume handled by Transiidikeskuse subsidiaries increased 7 percent y-o-y to 1.2 million tons.
Earlier, the Commercial Register has announced merger of Transiidikeskuse subsidiaries - AS Refetra, AS Muuga CT and OÜ Varumees with the parent company. Since June 1st, the companies have been operating under the brand name Transiidikeskuse A.S.
Transiidikeskuse AS is the operator of Estonia’s container and refrigerated terminals located in Muuga. In 2011 the company operators of Transiidikeskuse AS transshipped 2.65 million tons of cargo. In 2011, container throughput of the group leaped by 30% from a year earlier.
Estonia-based Muuga Container Terminal is a multipurpose facility in the port of Muuga. The company is set to expand MCT to double the terminal annual capacity from the current 450,000 TEUs to at least 850,000 TEUs. In 2011, Muuga CT handled 195,300 TEUs, a 29.6-percent growth y-o-y.
