VCT five-month box traffic rises 35 percent
Container traffic at Vladivostok Container Terminal (VCT) in January-May 2012 increased by 35% from a year ago, to 159,295 TEUs, when VCT was operating only on Berth No 16, and a 6-percent gain, taking into account container throughput at Berths No 14 and 15, the stevedore company said.
In May, handling of containerized imports / exports at the facility totaled 41,581 TEU, or up 36.5% year-over-year. Monthly volume of exported containers soared 48% month-on-month to 15,676 TEUs, of imported containers – by 28% to 17,199 TEUs. Short sea traffic totaled 8,706 TEUs (+36%). During the period, there were 42 arrivals (versus 29 calls in April), with an average turnover per vessel at 990 TEUs.
